This article examines the historical experience of using ethnographic materials in the process of teaching the Russian language. Various stages in the development of teaching methodology are analyzed, where the ethnographic context was employed as a means of increasing student motivation, enhancing intercultural communication, and developing linguistic and cultural competence. Special attention is given to how elements of folk culture, traditions, customs, and folklore contribute to a deeper understanding of the language, broaden learners’ horizons, and foster respect for national particularities.
