Mazkur maqolada musulmon Sharqida dinshunoslik fanining shakllanishi va tarixiy taraqqiyot bosqichlari tahlil qilinadi. Qur’on va hadis asosida boshlangan dastlabki apologetik yondashuvlar, IX–XII asrlarda ilm-fan, falsafa va qiyosiy tahlil asosida rivojlanib, mustaqil ilmiy soha sifatida shakllangani ilmiy asosda yoritilgan. Beruniy, Shahristoniy, Ibn Hazm, Abul Maoliy Ubaydulloh kabi mutafakkirlarning asarlari musulmon dinshunosligi rivojida tutgan o‘rni tahlil etiladi. XIX asrda modernizmning musulmon tafakkuriga ta’siri, G‘arb tanqidlariga ilmiy javob berish, dinlararo muloqotdagi o‘zgarishlar muhim bosqich sifatida ko‘rib chiqiladi.
