VILLAGE SETTLEMENT IN THE CHOCH OASIS IN THE HIGH MIDDLE AGES: A HISTORICAL-GEOGRAPHICAL ANALYSIS

This article is devoted to the study of the rural settlements of the Choch (Tashkent) oasis in the High Middle Ages (IX-XII centuries) and the processes of their formation based on historical and geographical sources. The names of the villages mentioned in Chinese, Arab and Persian sources, their natural and geographical location, economic life, as well as the characteristics of the living environment of the population are analyzed. The article studies the ancient cities and villages in the basin of the Chirchik and Ahangaran rivers, the foothills of the Chatkal mountain range, their historical significance and toponymic features. The results of the research serve as an important source in illuminating the socio-economic and cultural development of the Choch oasis in the Middle Ages.
