This article presents information on the rock-forming components and minerals, as well as the geochemical characteristics of oil shales found in the Lower Eocene deposits of the Karakata Depression. Geological exploration conducted at the Sangruntau and Aktau deposits in the Central Kyzylkum region involved the use of correlation analysis methods to determine the geochemical properties of the oil shales. Primary halos of rare metals within the shale composition were also identified. In conclusion, the study of the mineralogical and geochemical characteristics of oil shales enables a better understanding of the conditions under which shale deposits form, as well as the identification of associated valuable minerals
