This study is devoted to the investigation of secondary naming in German formed through conversion. Conversion is the process of creating a new meaning by changing the lexical-grammatical category of a word, and it is widely used in German within the structure of zoonyms and phytonyms. The study analyzes nominalizations derived from adjectives. The role of ellipsis, the metaphorical and metonymic foundations in secondary naming, as well as naming mechanisms based on color, external appearance, and activity features, are highlighted. Examples such as the lexemes and terms “Bläuling,” “Gelbling,” and “Grünling” are analyzed. The results of the study reveal the interaction of intralinguistic (ellipsis) and extralinguistic factors in the process of secondary naming, as well as the importance of metaphorical and metonymic bases in lexical-semantic development.
