This article examines the theoretical and methodological foundations of developing communicative competence among students in general secondary schools. It analyzes the essence of the concept of communicative competence as well as its structural components, including linguistic, speech, strategic, social, and sociocultural competences. The main purpose of the study is to identify effective pedagogical approaches that contribute to the development of students’ communicative abilities and the improvement of their speech activity. The study substantiates the effectiveness of such didactic approaches as the use of interactive methods, the creation of speech situations, text-based activities, systematic vocabulary work, and role-playing techniques. The results of the study show that the development of communicative competence is a continuous, systematic, and goal-oriented pedagogical process, which is implemented through enriching students’ vocabulary, developing their speech culture, and forming skills of effective language use.
