COGNITIVE AND METACOGNITIVE STRATEGIES OF THE WRITING PROCESS
This article examines the theoretical foundations of writing strategies and their effectiveness in developing writing skills in a foreign
language, particularly in English. The article also provides a detailed discussion of the concept of metacognition and its main
components – declarative, procedural, and conditional knowledge. In addition, the importance of cognitive processes in education
is demonstrated through Bloom’s taxonomy and its revised model. The findings suggest that employing instructional methods
based on cognitive and metacognitive approaches significantly enhances the quality of learners’ written performance in a foreign
language.
