INSECTS AS AN ALTERNATIVE SOURCE OF PROTEIN: A REVIEW OF THE POTENTIAL USE OF LOCUSTS (DOCIOSTAURUS MAROCCANUS) AS A DIETARY COMPONENT FOR LABORATORY RATS
The article presents the role of the Moroccan locust (Dociostaurus maroccanus) in solving the problems of food security and global
food shortage. The importance of locusts as a source of proteins with high biological value, essential amino acids and various
nutrients is discussed. This study aims to study the changes in hematological and morphometric analysis of locusts (Dociostaurus
maroccanus) by feeding them to laboratory rats. In addition, it offers innovative approaches to encourage the adoption of locusts
as an alternative food source, support sustainable food production and alleviate the global food crisis.
