In this article, for the first time, the reaction of o-xylene with 2-chloropropionyl chloride in the presence of the catalyst FeCl₃·6H₂O has been carried out, and the influence of reagent ratios as well as reaction conditions on the composition of the products has been scientifically substantiated. The composition of the obtained products was studied by GC, and each compound was isolated by column chromatography. The structures of the isolated compounds were determined using IR, ¹H NMR, and ¹³C NMR spectroscopy. It was established that the highest product yield is achieved when the reaction is conducted at a 1:1 molar ratio of o-xylene to 2-chloropropionyl chloride.
