LEXICAL-SEMANTIC FEATURES AND INTERPRETATION OF THE TERMINOLOGICAL SYSTEM IN ENGLISH AND UZBEK DIPLOMATIC DISCOURSE
This article provides a scholarly analysis of the lexical-semantic features of English and Uzbek diplomatic discourse, as well as the
principles underlying the formation of its terminological system. Diplomatic discourse represents a specific institutional genre in
which linguistic units serve to ensure political neutrality, a culture of formal communication, the promotion of compromise, and
communicative security. Based on illustrative examples, the article examines the differences in the degree of legal force of such
English terms as agreement, accord, treaty, and memorandum, and their Uzbek equivalents kelishuv, bitim, shartnoma, and
memorandum. In addition, the linguopragmatic impact of mitigating lexical means, indirect strategies of drawing attention, and
culturally motivated diplomatic etiquette in the Uzbek diplomatic language is explored.
