The economic development of advanced countries largely depends on the condition of all types of transport infrastructure under
development, particularly on the convenience, reliability, and safety of railway networks. During the Soviet period, the railway
networks that were part of the Central Asian Railway Administration connected the republics of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and
Turkmenistan with the Kyrgyz and Tajik republics. The railway infrastructure of the region also linked the fraternal republics of
Central Asia with the Mediterranean and Black Seas, as well as with seaports located in the Persian Gulf. Railway corridors
developed and promoted with the support of developed countries and international donor organizations provide potential transit
opportunities for the countries of the region toward East and South Asia and Central Europe. This article focuses on the historical
analysis of these processes.
