The integrity and coherence of a literary work largely depend on its compositional elements, among which the title plays a significant role. The title of a literary work succinctly encapsulates the author’s idea, intention, and the thematic essence of the entire text – often comprising hundreds of pages – by means of one or several words. In literary fiction, the title functions as an element that evokes the reader’s initial assumptions and impressions about the work, attracts attention, and motivates the reader to engage with the text. Moreover, it psychologically prepares the reader for the perception and interpretation of the work’s content. This article examines the significance of the title as one of the essential components of a literary work’s composition. Through an analysis of the titles of the short stories included in the collection by the contemporary Turkish writer Selim İleri, All the Stories of Thirty Years (1967–1997) (Otuz Yılın Bütün Hikayeleri 1967–1997), the study explores the poetic structure of the author’s short stories, their artistic and ideological layers, and the distinctive features that characterize Selim İleri’s individual style.
