The article examines the problem of aligning philological education with the current demands of the labor market. It focuses on the gap between theoretical training and the practical, digital, and professional competencies expected from graduates. The author argues that philology students need skills in editing, translation, media text production, terminology work, and the use of artificial intelligence tools. The phenomenon of skills mismatch is interpreted within the framework of philological education. On this basis, the paper proposes a model of linguistic competencies including fundamental, communicative-editorial, translation, digitalapplied, and project-communication components. It also emphasizes the need to modernize curricula, strengthen cooperation with employers, and introduce project-based learning. The study concludes that such an approach can improve graduates’ employability, professional adaptability, and competitiveness.
