REVIEW OF THE STRATIGRAPHIC STUDY OF QUATERNARY DEPOSITS OF UZBEKISTAN

The article examines the more than century-long history of studying Quaternary deposits in Uzbekistan and analyzes the main
stages in the development of stratigraphic research in the region. The contribution of N.A. Severtsov, I.V. Mushketov, V.A.
Obruchev, N.F. Bezobrazova, Yu.A. Skvortsov, N.P. Vasilkovsky, G.A. Mavlyanov and other local and foreign scientists to the
study of Quaternary formations is highlighted. The stratigraphic schemes developed on the basis of studying river terraces, alluvial,
proluvial, deluvial and, in particular, loess deposits are considered, together with the methods of their justification and the problems
of interregional correlation. The capabilities of geomorphological, lithological, palynological, paleontological, paleopedological,
geochronological and paleomagnetic methods are analyzed, and the necessity of their integrated application for improving the
stratigraphic framework of geological work in Uzbekistan is substantiated.
