This article examines the place of Nobel Prize-winning author Pearl S. Buck (1892–1973) in world literature, particularly the significance of her literary mediation between Eastern and Western cultures. The study explores the artistic representation of Chinese society, women and family, motherhood, patriarchal relations, cultural conflict, and humanism in such works as The Good Earth, East Wind: West Wind, The Mother, Pavilion of Women, and Peony. It also highlights the transnational and transcultural dimensions of Pearl Buck’s literary heritage and substantiates her position as a “syncretic” writer who connected the American and Chinese literary-cultural spaces.
