Linguistic knowledge plays a crucial role in deep comprehension of texts, analysis of semantic connections, and the development of students’ thinking skills. This article analyzes the impact of linguistic competence on the assimilation of literary texts based on an experiment conducted among 6th-grade students. A passage from G‘afur G‘ulom’s story “Shum Bola” was selected for the study. Based on this text, students were given questions aimed at assessing their understanding of referential pronouns, antonyms, coordinated sentence parts, implied meanings and insertions. At the end of the experiment, the written responses of 29 students were analyzed, and the percentage of correct answers was calculated for each task. The results showed that insufficient understanding of certain linguistic elements caused difficulties in grasping specific aspects of the text. The study confirms the direct correlation between the level of linguistic knowledge and reading comprehension.
