This article scientifically analyzes the content, structural framework, and pedagogical significance of the concept of “metacognitive
competence”, which holds a crucial place in the system of pedagogical and psychological sciences. The study highlights the
pedagogical importance of metacognition as an individual's ability to recognize, plan, manage, and evaluate their own cognitive
processes (memory, thinking, attention, and perception). The article substantiates that the formation and development of
metacognitive skills enhance students' level of self-regulated learning and ensure their proactive engagement in effective decision-
making during problem-based situations. The article is intended for specialists and researchers dealing with pedagogical
psychology, modern educational technologies, and the intellectual enhancement of learners.
